Reading about the joys of decluttering really did help me get started on the work this weekend. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday I worked systematically through most of the things in my sewing room that didn't belong there. Now I have 3 bags of trash, a pile of electro-schrott, and a start on organizing my projects in a useful way.
Easy it wasn't - I frequently needed a break to just process my emotions. Probably the strongest emotion came up when I found the sympathy card sent by our veterinarian when we had to put our dog to sleep, way back in 1993.
There are good things coming out, and I am focusing on the good side more than the work. It's good to recognize that I don't need to keep many things anymore - now they are just weighing down our lives rather than enhancing them.
"Let's sell a couple of these things," I thought. But when I checked comparable prices, it no longer made sense. It's just not worth the effort to list and sell something on eBay if it's only going to bring a couple of Euro - better to donate it or throw it away.
Other things weren't lost, but I still enjoyed seeing them again. Below is a picture of my DH, DD and Ddog, way back in 1993, when DH got his Master's degree in Industrial Engineering at the University of Tennessee.
All in all, a very good weekend, even if I didn't sew at all. Now DD is reminding me to work on her dalmatian jacket, so she has something nice to wear when she goes out with her *new* boyfriend. There's also plenty more decluttering to do, because I'm not even ready to paint the walls yet. My goal is to get the room empty enough so DH can paint it while I'm at a retreat in Bad Herrenalb.
