As best I can figure, I need to make some of the following choices:
- Do I want to buy an add-on module to my Bernina 440QE, or a standalone machine
- If i buy the module, what kind of sewing machine should I buy to be able to sew while the other machine is embroidering
- What kind of software do I need to buy to do the things I want to do
- What services and products would be cheaper for me to "outsource," that is, buy from some other source? I'm thinking designs, or digitizing services, or who knows what
Let me know your opinions, either here or by email. I'm quite confused right now.

Karen: Thanks for visiting my blog, Marsha's Meanderings, and commenting on my visit to the Bernina Factory. I have a 640 E - take a look at this model while you are shopping for an embroidery machine. Expensive, yes. Reliable, yes. Fun, yes.
I bought a used (new condition, well cared for) Janome 300E in April. Like you, I had no clue where to go what to do, I only thought I wanted to do some nice little embroidery on quilts and whatnots. Long story short, I sold it in October. I had to come to grips with the learning curve which I didn't want to take the time to go through. I did not buy my machine from a store so I didn't have the advantage of taking classes. Also, in order to embroider lots of thread is required, stabilizers for different fabrics, appropriately sized hoops and the list goes on. Some machines cut the "jump" stitches, some don't.
If you decide to get a machine, please do get one from a dealer who will offer free classes... even if you buy a used machine. Don't go over the top in model but one that will serve your needs until you can see if it really will be something you will enjoy.
There... I've said it. :) I hope this helps a bit.
