We had a lovely flight via Delta Airlines, and with the exception of it being a very full flight, experienced no problems. Customs at Atlanta Hartsfield Airport was overwhelmed, due to several planes landing at the same time. We were quite early ourselves, and there were so many visitors that US citizens couldn't get past the large queues to find the citizen-only queue.
I did find out one useful piece of information: if a family is traveling together and one is not a US citizen, he can simply accompany the family without having to wait in the other line.
After about 1.5 hours in the airport picking up luggage, getting around, and picking up the car, we landed smack dab in the middle of rush hour. A friendly Hertz gate-keeper gave me the advice to take the Camp Creek Parkway over to the 285, then the 285 north to our hotel. Worked like a charm, and introduced my daughter to the friendliness of the Atlanta residents.
Just a few minutes later, as we stopped to pick up soft drinks, she found herself "forced" to engage in small talk with the store cashier. It's driving her crazy. :)
